ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
the heart of the townhouse
BOOK NOW
The Palladian fronted Townhouse was designed by John Wood the Elder in the early 1700s. JWE's singular vision to restore Bath to it's Roman ideal is embodied in the Palladian style and met fierce opposition. Through private investment JWE persevered and built his master plan just on the periphery of Bath's City gates.
The Circus, Royal Crescent, The North and South Parades, Queen Square and Prior Park are all credited to JWE and now celebrated for the character and beauty that is definitively Bath.
The building was lavishly restored by 8 Holland Street opening in 2023 for overnight guests. The guesthouse adjoins our Bath gallery, expanding the portfolio of our original London namesake gallery at 8 Holland Street in Kensington and newest gallery and design studio, the St James's Park Flagship.
