Afra & Tobia Scarpa
Husband-and-wife-duo Afra (1937-2011) and Tobia Scarpa (b.1935) designed together for over fifty years, collaborating with design and fashion houses to create iconic pieces that epitomise fine Italian design.
Pared-back elegant shapes and comfort were the priorities of Afra and Tobia Scarpa when they set up their studio in 1960. They were soon working with the likes of B&B Italia and Cassina, the latter of which saw them produce the gorgeously plump Soriana sofa and Model 121 chairs.
Their pieces can now be found in design museums across the world, and the duo’s original designs have found favour with a whole new generation. Since the passing of Afra Scarpa, Tobia has completed the Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso and continues to consult on large architectural projects.
