Clifford Ellis (1907 – 1985) was a British printmaker, painter designer and art teacher. Memorably known for the work he did for the ‘Recording Britain’ project during the Second World War and for his role in the development of art teaching. The outbreak of WW2 stimulated a project that was set up to employ artists on the home front to document the fascinating records of British lives and landscapes at the time of imminent change. 

In 1936 Ellis joined the staff of Bath Technical College and later in 1938 was appointed head of the Bath School of Art, eventually Bath Academy of Art, where he devised a pioneering syllabus and assembled a notable staff.
