Charlotte McLeish

Overview

Whimsical Jacobean designs on forms harking back to the Ancient World - and all produced in a studio in East London; the ceramicist Charlotte McLeish seems to fluidly blend and cross time and space.

Starting out as a goldsmith in her family's business in Stratford-upon-Avon, perhaps the charm and history of Shakespeare and his hometown filtered into Charlotte somehow; her ceramics show a love and understanding of the past and its preciousness. They also display a great sense of fun and life - it is as if she has brought objects from the history books and made them real before our very eyes.

Charlotte can be found, sketchbook in hand, discovering new objects that inspire in the collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Museum. She enjoys experimenting with different slips and glazes, and has even been known to throw sand and seawood into the mix too! Whatever Charlotte has bubbling away in her magical potter's cauldron, we're excited to see what else is to come.
