Isaac Benigson

Overview

“These “SITTERS” are quite oblivious of being captured by his eagle eye. They are quite innocent of being thus observed, and of course visual observation of a certain expressionistic kind is not at all kind, its purpose would be absurdly diluted by too much empathy and syrupy consolation. No, it’s a case of flourishing the brush as if it were a knife, its kinder to cut quickly!"

Christopher Peter, former curator of the Irma Stern Museum, Cape Town.
