Anthony Banks

Overview

Much of what I do In the studio is facilitating opportunities for imperfection within the works, chances for the unexpected to occur. - Anthony Banks, 2023

Anthony Banks (b. 1988, UK) is an East London based artist whose work refers to the British landscape but also borrows stylistically from far and wide - leaning towards post war art. Paintings can be ten years old until the artist has gauged that the marks are finally there - finally done. This breadth of time is a pattern of production for Anthony Banks. The paintings are landscapes of repair and restoration, collections of moments that are built slowly and given time to settle.

Anthony Banks solo exhibition Corduroy Roads is the inaugural show at 8 Holland Street, St James’s Park opeing on 22nd June 2023. The show will be curated amongst design classics from 8 Holland Street’s collection of modern & contemporary British artworks, c20th and vintage Scandinavian & European furniture, ceramics, textiles and design in the Tennant Gallery of St James’s Park.
