George Young, born in 1981, graduated from Falmouth College of Art in 2003, and Royal College of Art in 2008. His practice spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation and film.
Starting with a real event or situation, experienced first-hand, Young’s work moves between pictorial representation and abstract composition. With several layers, options from woodcut's or paintings - George pivots from being obviously representational to a more constructed composition though trial and error.
In a varied practice of woodcut printing and painting, Young invites us to see what he see's - in rich hue's of azure momentarliy, we get a glimse of his garden, of the long way home, the vapour trails in his sky. Surreal and grounded all at once: Young imbues a sese of calm and masterfull confidence with each stroke.
Young has exhibited internationally including at Momentum, 6th Nordic Biennial of Contemporary Art, Moss, Zabludowicz Collection, london, Peer Gallery, london, Ana Christea, New York and Galerie Klatovy/ Klenova in Czech Republic, and his work can be found in private collections throughout Europe and the US.
