8 HOLLAND STREET... HAVE A SEAT... at SELFRIDGES: An exhibition at Selfridges, Oxford Street

20 January - 23 March 2025

8 Holland Street announces 8 HOLLAND STREET... HAVE A SEAT... exclusive to Selfridges, London, running at the Oxford Street store from 20 January to 23 March 2025. Created by 8 Holland Street, the special project presents 100 iconic chairs, stools and seating designs, from across the Twentieth Century, celebrating the story and personality embodied by this most functional and varied form of design. Each piece in the collection will be available to purchase in store, accompanied by a carefully edited selection of books, cushions, textiles and ceramics.

Chairs have a dynamic backstory, originally crafted as symbols of status and a form of storytelling by ancient civilisations. The Twentieth Century marked a period of significant innovation and transformation in chair design, driven by both artistic movements and advancements in materials and manufacturing. Iconic designs from creators like Marcel Breuer and Charles and Ray Eames, utilised new materials such as plywood and fiberglass to create functional yet artistic pieces. The rise of mass production allowed for greater accessibility to stylish designs, as bold colours and eclectic forms embraced a departure from traditional aesthetics.

8 HOLLAND STREET... HAVE A SEAT... brings this visual story of chairs and seating to Selfridges. Alongside design classics by the likes of Thornet. Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti, Hans Wegner, Guillerme et Chambron, Tobia Scarpa and Joseph Frank, the collection also presents contemporary designs by emerging designers including Benjamin Edgar, Brandon Barlton and Butterfield Brothers. Prices range from £200 to £20,000.
