In deepest, darkest Stockwell in a little red shed at the bottom of a garden, interior designer-cum-ceramicist – and friend of 8 Holland Street – Gavin Houghton can be found painting something naughty onto his latest offerings for the kiln!
We’re thrilled to be a part of Gavin’s fantastic foray into ceramics as he creates DISH OF THE DAY exclusively MADE FOR US. Colour, pattern and playfulness are bywords not only for his successful career in design, but for the plates he has produced for us from his garden studio. Each shows great skill not only in their making, but in Gavin’s understanding of colour, glazes and how they can transform once fired, as well as his love of witty Cocteau-esque cartoons and decorative traditions – always with a twist.
The six designs will raise a smile (Gavin has spared our blushes … this time!) when they catch your eye, and we thank him for creating such a special collection for 8 Holland Street. Much like Jean Cocteau himself, they come from a maker who fizzes with boundless fun, energy and talent.
