Ali Hewson

Ali Hewson is a British ceramic artist based in Norwich, known for her passion for mud-larking at secret Thameside locations, where she uncovers hidden treasures that spark her creativity. Hewson seamlessly blends centuries-old pottery traditions with contemporary designs fresh from her kiln.

The expressive lines and patterns that define her ceramics reflect her background in illustration, which she studied at Camberwell College of Art. It was during this time that she first began working with ceramics, and the pieces she creates today are a testament to her skill, care, and uplifting spirit.

From her Norwich studio, Ali produces small collections of tableware, often inspired by the shards of Delftware she discovers while mud-larking. Her work is carefully crafted using renewable energy in the kiln, with an emphasis on minimising waste by reusing clay. Each piece is painted with natural oxides, gradually transforming into the beautiful, unique forms we see today.
