Artists & Makers
Ania Rekas is a Polish artist and designer based in London. She graduated with an MA in Print from the Royal College of Art and a BA in Fashion Print from Central Saint Martins.
Her work brings together small moments from everyday life, personal memories and imagined landscapes, often inspired by places and experiences that bring her happiness. These moments become her own contemporary Ikona: small sculptural images representing a story, a feeling, a person or a particular place.
Working primarily with porcelain, she creates handbuilt ceramic pieces, experimenting with texture, painting and raised line drawing. Many of her pieces take the form of personal talismans, connected to particular stories, feelings and places. She currently draws inspiration from Slavic and European fairy tales, parables and poetry, which she reinterprets and reimagines through her own visual language, creating a dreamlike world that brings these elements together with her own experiences.
She recently completed a ceramic residency at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan, where she continued to develop her practice and experiment with painting and ceramics.
