8 HOLLAND STREET PRESENTS: CEREN MUFTUOGLU

Ceren Muftuoglu is a London-based textile artist. Originally trained in fashion design, she later shifted her focus towards a studio-based art practice, developing a visual language centred on thread, colour and geometric form. Working with cotton thread on painted canvas, she builds each piece through a slow and labour-intensive process of hand stitching.

In her work, stitch moves beyond its traditional function to become both a structural and

mark-making element. Her practice explores the relationship between hand, material and surface, creating a dialogue between textile traditions and contemporary abstraction. The repetitive nature of her process reflects an enduring interest in attention, making and the passage of time.

Her work has been exhibited in the UK and internationally. Based in her London studio, Muftuoglu continues to explore the visual and structural possibilities of hand stitching as a contemporary artistic medium.

The Silent Code, Emergent Axis and Pulse Field series explore the relationship between repetition, rhythm and variation. Beginning with geometric systems, the works trace subtle shifts and transformations that emerge within ordered structures. While each series develops its own visual approach, together they can be read as part of an ongoing investigation into movement, balance and change. The works occupy a space between precision and uncertainty, suggesting a continual negotiation between control and intuition.
