Artists & Makers
“My work is the result of an honest relationship with the materials that I use. I want to allow evidence of the hand and the raw texture of the clay to be clearly visible in the pieces that I make.
Ancient and tribal pottery are a key influence.
My ceramics are mostly coiled, I also use a slab technique to create simple forms to decorate with incised pattern. Both of these techniques have remained unchanged for thousands of years.
I want my ceramic pieces to appear to have been dug up from the earth and discovered from an ancient primitive time, while also sitting comfortably in the contemporary world.
My years of experience as a sculptor and prop maker for film, TV and theatre have led me to discover my own way of working as an artist.
Through having worked with so many different materials and techniques, I feel that I have found my own medium and method in clay.”
